Sirimavo Bandaranaike (Sri Lanka) was the first female prime minister ever elected in the world. Since this moment in 1960, more than 70 female prime ministers and presidents have been elected worldwide.

Vigdís Finnbogadóttir was both Iceland’s and Europe’s first female president. To date, she is the longest-serving elected female head of state in the world. She was the president for 16 years.
